Are You Ready For A Lawn Tractor?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Now you have moved to the country, you find yourself with new challenges. Not only that, but the job of taking care of it’s all yours.

When you presently have three, 4 or maybe five acres, the walk-behind mower that used to do a fine job on your smaller suburban lot just isn’t going to slash it. In looking for a response to this challenge, an increasing number of country householders have turned to a tool that lawn upkeep operatives have used for years : the highly maneuverable, highly productive zero-turn-radius mower. That’s why they are the single quickest growing gear segment in the outside power appliances industry. Many house owners see the zero-turn as a fast and good way to mow great grasslands. While large commercial models offer lots of stability on hillsides, smaller home mowers are loads more subject to drifting downhill when on an incline. In addition, the purchase of a zero-turn mower is an investment in a pure cutting machine.

If you would like one machine that offers you the facility to blow snow, do blade work, pull a use cart, or perform a spread of other roles, then a lawn tractor or garden tractor is going to be a much better option. Thanks to creative design and engineering from John Deere, you do not have to sacrifice the agility and maneuverability of a zero-turn mower for the suppleness and multiple purpose functionality of a lawn tractor. You can find four-wheel steer on 2 models of Select Series Tractors.

These machines have been designed and built to perform a selection of light- and professional quality jobs for purchasers who have bigger properties of at least 7 acres with more landscape features and challenging terrain.

These tractors come in a variety of 17 to twenty-seven hp, both air- and liquid-cooled engines, depending on the model. Other features include a singular mix of engine features and an exclusive hood design to offer bigger dragging capacity and longer engine life. Wide-gauge wheels provide improved functionality on coarse ground and a four-point mount is more proof against abuse and tough terrain.

Next, author Weldon Duffy includes some pieces you will really want to find out about Selling John Deere Tractors which you can access via the main website here at John Deere’s Tractor Store resource.

Use The Box Blade To Level Your New Yard

Monday, February 8th, 2010

When it is time to level the yard after construction, one of the best tools to have on hand is a box blade. Not to be confused with a box cutter, the box blade is a large implement designed for use with a tractor that is designed to contour and smooth the ground.

The blade is attached to the tractor by use of the three point hitch. If you are not familiar with tractors, this hitch allows the tool to be raised or lowered easily using the hydraulic system of the tractor. The movable arms of this hitch allow the blade to be lifted or lowered. It also can tilt the blade to the left or the right. This can all be done from the seat of the tractor, so that the operator does not have to stop the tractor, get off and adjust the blade. Instead, he simply moves the two leavers that control the hitch and the blade.

Most of these blades have a cutting surface on both the front and the rear of the blade. They are designed for two way use. Additionally, there are usually three or more ripper shanks found in front of the blade. These shanks can be retracted if not needed, but are also great for very hard ground. More expensive models of the box blade have a release that allows the blade to float when the tractor is backing up. This works well in the final passes of leveling ground.

Choosing the correct size of blade is important. Large blades and tractors may be useless in small areas while small blades would take forever to do the job in large areas. If you live in town and have a small lot, you may find a forty-two inch blade that is designed for use behind a lawn tractor or ATV to be all that is needed. If you are leveling a large estate, then you may want a six or seven foot model that requires the use of a large tractor.

Some large commercial blades come with laser guidance systems. The systems automatically adjust the hydraulic system to keep the blade level with the ground.

Before beginning to level the ground, it is important to remove large rocks, logs or other objects that may interfere with the process. Any large dirt piles can be cut back by using the blade in reverse like a bulldozer. This helps to ensure that the tractor is always operated on fairly level surfaces to lower the chance of tipping over.

You are now ready to lower the shanks and use them to break up any hard ground as well as roughly level the area. This is especially helpful with areas that are higher than the rest of the ground. Once the ground is broken up, you will be able to raise the shanks and lower the blade for moving dirt as necessary.

Use the blade in the floating mode in order to complete the task. These final passes will help to ensure that the ground has been leveled.

Are you looking into smoothing and contouring your land? If so, then the box blade and the box scraper is the way to go. This equipment can easily be hooked to the back of your tractor.

The Post Hole Digger Has Changed Over The Years

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

These tools have changed over the years. They have gone from handheld to mechanical. But though innovation of post hole diggers this once tough job of making holes has become a snap.

Handheld diggers were the first one the scene. If you need to plant a tree or shrub, or even set a fence post this was the tool that you need. It made a better hole then the traditional shovel and also was a little faster. Now I cant say it was easy. Anyone who has spent all day using one of these tools knows that it is hard work.

If you just need to put up a small fence or plant a tree the manual digger was great. But when you had a job dealing with hundreds of holes then you would need something that would be more efficient. You would need a tool that could put a precise hole in the ground and do it fast. The hydraulic post hole digger was created to do just that.

The hydraulic post hole digger was like a drill that was attached to the shaft of a tractor. One could move the digger to the desired spot, let in down, and dig a perfect whole in the ground. This would make digging wholes a lot easier and faster. You could also get them standing up on three legs with a motor that would spin the blades. As the motor spun the blade you could lower it into the ground.

Soon everyone was using these mechanical diggers. Farmer would use them to set fence line or even plant large crops. Construction workers were using them to drill holes for beams that had to be set in concrete in the ground. Even landscaper found them useful for doing jobs that required them to plant a lot of trees or bushes. These diggers made it far easier to dig hole and they were done is less time. This saved a lot of money to these people.

Depending on the job that you are doing will determine that price that you will pay for one of these diggers. If you have small holes to make you can get blades for twenty dollars. If you have a large holes to make you can spend thousands on these tools. But it is well worth the cost compared to using a handheld digger all day.

You also have the option to rent these diggers. There are store that will rent you large equipment like this for a day, week, or however long you need one. If your business has the need for a digger everyday I would recommend buying one for your company. But, if you just need to do one or two jobs then renting one will probably be your best option.

When it is time to make that hole these tools will come in very handy. There are just so many uses for them its hard to cover them all. But, do some research and you will find all the information that you need to make a wise decision when buying one. Just think there may be a digger sitting out there with your name on it.
