Each spring many people look to their yards and begin the process of planting grass seed in hope of having a green lawn before too long. Whether you are starting a new lawn or just filling in some holes in an existing yard there are some ways to assure that your grass will grow. It doesn’t require much effort to grow a healthy lawn but it does require a good bit of patience for your lawn to reach its full maturity. Below are some tips for growing a healthy lawn:
Lots of Water: If it does not rain each day you will want to give your grass at least 15 to 20 minutes of water. The main thing to remember when you start growing your lawn is that it will need lots of water. You will definitely need a long hose and a sprinkler or sprayer.
Do Not Walk On It: Other than forgetting to water your grass, walking on new grass is an almost sure way to kill your grass. New grass seed must be left untouched and not trampled on while it is beginning to sprout. Some people post signs around where they are planting grass in an effort to prevent the new grass seed from being stepped on by careless walkers and pets.
Mow Your Grass Sparingly: While cutting your grass does make it look cleaner, it is important to remember that you should let your grass become mature before you cut it for the first time. Of course when you do cut your lawn you should use a higher setting on your lawn mower so that your grass can become thick and green. Grass needs an opportunity to grow strong and healthy before you mow it down.
To grow a beautiful lawn you only need to spend two to three hours a week caring for it. The first time you attempt to grow grass you might need to invest in some simple gardening tools and the best lawn mower you can afford. It’s easy to have the yard of your dreams if you are able to dedicate some time and effort each week.
