A very common problem of the homeowners living in a cold region is freezing of water pipes. You can easily thaw your frozen water pipes with the help of some commonly used methods. Here is a list of all such methods.
A high power hair dryer is the most common and safest method of unfreezing frozen water pipes. You just have to move the hair dryer back and forth over the frozen section to thaw the pipe. The faucet should be open to allow the water to start dripping. As well, a heat lamp is a popular choice to thawing pipes.
An electric portable space heater can also be used to thaw your water pipes. Try to fit the portable heater in the space near the pipe as here the amount of heat produced will be most effective. Just fit the space heater in the enclosed space and turn it ON. The heat produced by it can heat the area and as a result thaws the pipe.
A device known as piping hot machine is also very useful for thawing frozen pipes. This machine uses two clamps that are attached to the frozen pipe and when the machine is turned on, it heats the pipe area in between these clamps. You can either purchase this machine or can obtain it on rent from a plumbing supplier.
You can also wrap heat tape around the frozen pipe in order to thaw it. So wrap the pipe with the tape and plug the end into an outlet. The heat produced will be responsible for thawing the frozen water pipe.
You can also try to use a heat gun to unfreeze the water pipes. Aim the heat gun on the frozen section of the pipe and move it over the pipe so that the heat properly spreads over the frozen section. You need to be little patient while using this method.
Plumber’s torch can also be used to thaw frozen pipes. However, using a plumber’s torch is quite risky. Therefore, be careful if you are using it for thawing frozen water pipes. A plumber’s torch should be used only for copper or metal based pipes.
At last prevention of pipes against freezing is very essential because if you will not prevent pipes from freezing, it will get easily frozen during cold season. Therefore, try to insulate the pipes using insulation tape.
