Installing Shower Sliding Glass Doors

A lot of people enjoy doing things on their own and the installation of sliding glass doors may be an easy thing to do as long as you are the handyman type. Firstly you need to make sure that you know every step that you will need to follow to install the shower sliding doors. The more you know the greater the chances are that the project will go smoothly. If you are installing a frameless sliding door or a more standard one the project will be the same. There are various reasons why shower sliding doors might be customized and these might need a more specialized installation method.

Everything needs to be measured up properly before you can make the decision as to which shower doors to buy. It also doesn’t help measuring the base of the shower. It is very rare to find a wall that has been built straight as a result it is recommended that you measure every 30cm or so up the wall. You might have to trim the sides or the bottom of the door to make it fit correctly. It goes without saying that a shower door that doesn’t fit is going to result in leaks.

The base track for the sliding door needs to be installed as the first step. The only time you won’t do this is if the shower door is one of those trackless bottom types which are normally used for handicap access. If this is the case you may still need to install the track but, instead of it acting as a guide for the door, it might be something that flattens out for the wheelchair to run over it. You will still need to make sure it is there so that the water runs back into the shower and not all over the floor.

Secondly to need to install the top track properly and this must be directly above the bottom track to allow it to work correctly. In the case of a frameless door you will need to read the manufacturer’s instructions before you start because the top track is normally more of a guide than the frame.

The last phase is to make sure that the side panels are fitted correctly and the door is a correct fit. The door should not stick at any point. If everything was measured correctly at the beginning and you marked your tracks in such a way that you would notice if they started sliding, then there shouldn?t be any problems. Remember though , that if the tracks have moved by even a small amount, you may need to start the entire installation again and this is true for frameless as well as standard shower door installations.
